Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then located multiple other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state preliminary tests indicate the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the public for information.
An important official stated the incident left him speechless and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, recalling the death of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
